Prior to that he was the sector head of small cap research, responsible for managing the Old Mutual Small Companies Fund (unit trust) as well as the small cap component of the group’s institutional funds. 

    Brian completed articles with KPMG before joining Old Mutual Investment Group. He became a portfolio manager in early 2000.

He has 18 years of experience in the South African and offshore derivative markets. 

    After completing his articles at Price Waterhouse Coopers in 1996, Bryn worked in the Investment Banking division of Bankers Trust in London. He joined Cadiz Financial Services in 1998 doing institutional derivatives research, sales and structuring. In 2001, Bryn joined Investec treasury performing derivative structuring and sales for institutions and corporates.

    He served as the Chief Investment Officer during the initial five years before he was appointed as Managing Director.

    Prior to his tenure at OMGxT, he spent five years at SCMB Asset Managers as a unit trust fund manager.

    Before joining Old Mutual Alternative Investments, he was employed by Mettle for six years, managing various departments and projects.The projects included the liquidation of a debtor book securitisation structure and recovery of a home loan debtor book which was in default.Prior to that De Wet did his accounting articles at LDP Inc.

    Denzil was appointed as portfolio manager for the investment strategy of the OMLAC(SA) portfolios (Life funds) in October 2005.     Denzil joined Old Mutual in 1983, and has held a number of different positions in the investment area. His broad experience has given him a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of investment matters, with one of his responsibilities having been the coordination of asset swap activity. Denzil managed the optimised portfolios of the Fairbairn Capital range and the PP Select Life portfolios since inception until September 2005. He has also managed pooled and segregated portfolios for SA and Namibian clients for many years.

    Doug’s background enables him to share the benefits of over 20 years of experience in developing and managing clients’ investments across South African and international investments, both listed and private.

    Doug started his career at Investec Asset Management in 1996. While at Investec Doug gained extensive experience in active management across a diverse client base, including pension funds, medical aids, insurance companies and collective investment schemes. He was appointed as Director of the business and was responsible for institutional business development and managing strategic client relationships.

    In October 2003 Doug joined investment firm Brait to grow its Fund of Hedge Funds proposition and establish a client base. In 2008, this role became a group-wide role for Private Equity, Credit, Fund of Private Equity Funds and single Hedge Funds. In 2012 Doug left Brait to establish a third-party capital-raising business for a network of hedge funds. In 2014 Doug joined RECM, a specialist Value Manager.

    Before joining Old Mutual Investment Group, Ettienne was responsible for the Joint Ventures business of Standard Bank Real Estate Investments in the Western Cape. Prior to Standard Bank, Ettienne was a Key Accounts Manager at ABSA Commercial Property Finance / Barclays Property Finance and an analyst at an unlisted property fund. Before embarking on his career in real estate finance and investment, Ettienne worked as a management consultant.

    Evan was a rated broker analyst in the property sector at Nedsec for two and a half years. He also headed up the fixed income asset class for six years for BoE Private Clients. Evan was also responsible for listed property portfolios during his time at BoE. Evan also worked at Franklin Templeton NIB Investment and Mawenzi Asset Managers (formerly Brait Asset Managers) as the Head of Fixed Income. In addition, he worked as a management and strategy consultant for four years.

    Fawaz joined Customised Solutions’ Old Mutual Global Index Trackers in February 2013 as an Investment Analyst, where he was responsible for local and international portfolio management, optimisation and implementation. He was also involved in various research projects and product development.

    Prior to joining Customised Solutions, Fawaz was a Quantitative Analyst within the Risk Research Division at Old Mutual Investment Group for more than a year. 

    He started his asset management career as a Client Relationship Manager at Oasis Group Holdings, and later joined MetAm, where he moved through the ranks in various roles ranging from the Valuations team, to a Hybrid and Structured Investments specialist and eventually the Investment Risk team.

    He became portfolio manager of the Old Mutual High Yield Opportunity Fund in 2007 and assisted in implementing a philosophy and process for the Old Mutual High Yield Opportunity Fund and Old Mutual Value Fund. 

    While completing his studies, Feroz joined Old Mutual Unit Trusts in 1998. In 2004, he moved to Old Mutual Investment Group as a trainee analyst.

    With a passion for investments and a flair for numbers, he excelled in analysing both private and listed equities and became an equity analyst responsible for the building and construction, electronics and diversified transport companies.

    Grant has 22 years of financial markets experience encompassing managing currency, derivative, hedge fund and multi asset class portfolios. Grant began his career in the currency markets, trading currency derivatives on a proprietary basis for one of the large South African banks. Grant is a qualified stock broker and was a founder member of the team that set up one of the first hedge funds in South Africa in 1997. He joined Futuregrowth Asset Management in 2004, heading up their Alternative Investments business. Futuregrowth was acquired by Old Mutual Investment Group in 2008.

    Hywel has worked in institutional and private client asset management in Europe and the Middle East for over 25 years. He began his investment career at Mercury Asset Management during which the business grew from US$10bn to US$100bn AUM. He then managed the UK and European Equity business for Goldman Sachs, growing external client AUM from US$1bn to over US$12bn, and helping to establish Goldman Sachs Asset Management as a highly regarded asset management operation in Europe.

    He then moved to Morgan Stanley where he managed the asset management equity business in Europe, before moving to become CEO of the Public Equity business of Dubai International Capital, with clients throughout the Middle East. Latterly, Hywel was a founding partner of Integral Asset Management, a boutique wealth management firm.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, Izak worked in AllianceBernstein's Cape Town-based investment research team for nearly nine years. His responsibilities included large cap equity research on emerging markets (EMEA industrials, airlines, homebuilders and utilities) and developed markets (European airlines, homebuilders and utilities).

    His previous experience also includes time at Bank of America Securities in London as a senior analyst in European telecoms; at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) in London and at PricewaterhouseCoopers, in both their London and Cape Town offices.

    Jacci served his articles with PriceWaterhouseCoopers before joining Anglo American’s Corporate Finance division in 1999 for two years. He then worked with Old Mutual’s Corporate Finance division for 5 years before moving to OMPE as a Portfolio Manager in February 2005.

    Jacci has degrees in accounting and is a Chartered Accountant. He has 19 years of industry experience and 12 years in private equity investments.

Prior to that she worked at Alexander Forbes for 10 years in the employee benefit and asset consulting fields.     Johann heads up the economic research unit and is responsible for all areas of macroeconomic research. This includes analysis of the global economy – specifically those economies that impact on South Africa, namely the US, Europe and China. Economic research is done with one thing in mind: What is the impact on the different asset classes and thus the investment decisions?

    After graduating at the University of Stellenbosch, where he studied courtesy of a South African Reserve Bank (SARB) bursary, Johann joined the SARB's Economics Department. Following a period as an economics lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch, he joined Trust Bank (one of the constituent banks of today's ABSA Bank) as an economist. Johann joined Old Mutual as an economist in 1991.

    John chairs the portfolio management oversight committee. This committee has oversight of all portfolio management decisions across the boutique

    John is also involved in the day-to-day portfolio management activities of three derivative-based hedge funds; and a low-risk absolute return fund – Capital Builder fund (unit trust, life-wrapped guaranteed and segregated versions).

    John joined Old Mutual Investment Group in November 2004 as a portfolio manager, and was responsible for developing and managing various portfolios including absolute return funds, structured products and hedge funds, all of which traded a full range of derivative instruments. He was also instrumental in developing a number of innovative equity funds which have built an enviable track record over the last 5 years.

    In 2013 John became CIO of the Absolute Return boutique. John has been a member of both the South African Hedge Fund Standing Committee (ASISA) and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Options Advisory Committee.

    During his articles at KPMG Financial Services from 1996 to 1998, John was a member of the Treasury Advisory Group, focusing exclusively on treasury operations, derivative trading and market risk management.  After completing his articles, John became a senior consultant at KPMG Banking and Finance Consulting in 1999, focusing on bank treasury risk management.

    In late 1999, John joined UBS Investment Bank in the derivative sales and structuring division. Over the next four years, he built the South African equity derivative business and was involved in equity derivatives research, structuring, sales and trading. He was promoted to Director, Head of Derivatives and a member of the UBS management committee in January 2001. In 2002, John became a member of the JSE Financial Derivatives Advisory Committee.

    John resigned from UBS in mid-2003 to study for an MBA at INSEAD (France).

    Jon Duncan leads the Responsible Investment Programme at Old Mutual. Jon also heads up the Sustainability Research and Engagement function at the Group’s South Africa-based asset manager, Old Mutual Investment Group, where he is involved in industry ESG research, the analysis of green growth opportunities, and engagement on regulatory issues and local industry initiatives, such as the Code for Responsible Investing South Africa (CRISA). Jon was involved in the drafting of CRISA and currently sits on the CRISA committee that drives the application of the Code in South Africa. In 2015, Jon was appointed as Senior Associate of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, which brings together business, government and academia to find solutions to critical sustainability challenges. www.cisl.cam.ac.uk.

    An engineer by training, with a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, he has over 20 years of professional experience in the field of sustainability research and engagement. He has worked extensively in Africa across a range of sectors supporting organisations with strategic social, environmental and sustainability related issues. Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, Jon worked at Environmental Resource Management as a partner for four years. Before that, he worked at Trialogue as a senior sustainability researcher and consultant. The rest of his working experience comprises similar positions in addition to two directorships.

    JJonathan joined the Old Mutual Equities boutique in April 2011. He manages the Old Mutual Equities institutional equity portfolios.

    He has 16 years of experience in the financial markets as both a portfolio manager and research analyst. Prior to Old Mutual Equities, Jonathan worked in the Old Mutual Equity Research boutique covering various sectors.

    Prior to that he worked in Old Mutual Private Equity and was involved in a number of significant buyouts of South African companies.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investments Group, Jonathan qualified as a chartered accountant with Grant Thornton and worked for Credit Suisse in London.

    Jonathan is the Chief Operating Officer within Customised Solutions and a member of its Executive Committee.

    Holding a great deal of technical operations expertise, his previous role included the management of the Data and Valuations team in Old Mutual Investment Group as well as managing the outsourcing agreement with Maitland, who are responsible for the administration of our international tracker funds. This position included managing the Old Mutual Investment Group Valuation Policy, performing the necessary analysis, and facilitating the Committee.
