    Peter joined Old Mutual in May 2005 and has been the Head of MacroSolutions since 2007. He has specific responsibility for the dynamic funds − the higher return funds within the MacroSolutions range. These include institutional funds, such as the Profile Edge 28 Portfolio, and unit trust funds: Old Mutual Maximum Return Fund of Funds and Old Mutual Flexible Fund.

    Having analysed countries and companies, Peter integrates top-down and bottom-up drivers and valuations to create an optimal portfolio. He has won a Raging Bull award for the best risk-adjusted fund in the overall prudential asset allocation category.

    Peter is an award-winning analyst who has extensive experience in the investment arena. Prior to joining Old Mutual, he worked at a stockbroker for 10 years, as an analyst and equity strategist, and was the Head of Research and Head of Equities for Cazenove South Africa.

    Sathyen joined the MacroSolutions boutique in 2010. He is responsible for managing the business operations, product, stakeholder relationships, as well as the marketing and distribution strategy.

    Sathyen joined Old Mutual in 2001. He was previously part of Old Mutual Corporate as Head of Smoothed Bonus Portfolios. In 2006 he was appointed as Old Mutual’s Group Assurance Actuary. In 2008, Sathyen took a position as product actuary at Old Mutual Investment Group where he was responsible for product development across the boutiques. Prior to joining Old Mutual, Sathyen held the position of Associate Director at Alexander Forbes.

    Alida joined MacroSolutions in August 2007. As an equity portfolio manager she is a member of the team responsible for the domestic equity portfolios. The equity managers ensure that MacroSolutions' asset allocation and thematic views are reflected in the equity portfolios.

    Prior to joining MacroSolutions, Alida was a senior portfolio manager at Metropolitan Asset Managers. Here she managed the Metropolitan Industrial Fund, Metropolitan General Equity Fund and the Small Cap Fund, as well as institutional funds. Alida was also the Head of Equity Research at Metropolitan Asset Managers for six years. She started her investment career at Allan Gray in 1994, first as a quantitative analyst and then later an equity analyst.

    Arthur joined MacroSolutions as Portfolio Manager in October 2011. Arthur is responsible for the domestic equity portfolios of the dynamic funds, including the Old Mutual Flexible Fund.

    Prior to joining MacroSolutions, Arthur was the Chief Investment Officer at Hermes Asset Management where he was responsible for the investment process and strategy, equity research and portfolio management. Before joining at Hermes, he served as a senior portfolio manager and an equity analyst at various prominent investment houses, including Quaystone Asset Management, Syfrets and BoE.

    Denzil was appointed as portfolio manager for the investment strategy of the OMLAC(SA) portfolios (Life funds) in October 2005. He has been actively involved in asset allocation since the inception of the previous named Old Mutual Asset Management (OMAM) Asset Allocation Group in 2002. He continues to play an active role in the management of MacroSolutions' institutional international portfolios and is specifically responsible for the World Balanced Funds.

    Denzil joined Old Mutual in 1983, and has held a number of different positions in the investment area. His broad experience has given him a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of investment matters, with one of his responsibilities having been the coordination of asset swap activity. Denzil managed the optimised portfolios of the Fairbairn Capital range and the PP Select Life portfolios since inception until September 2005. He has also managed pooled and segregated portfolios for SA and Namibian clients for many years.

    Evan joined MacroSolutions in February 2012 as the property portfolio manager. He manages the institutional and unit trust SA Quoted Property portfolios. Prior to this, Evan was part of Old Mutual Investment Group’s Equity Research team since December 2009. He was responsible for the portfolio management of all the property funds in research, as well as some analyst responsibilities.

    Evan was a rated broker analyst in the property sector at Nedsec for two and a half years. He also headed up the fixed income asset class for six years for BoE Private Clients. Evan was also responsible for listed property portfolios during his time at BoE. Evan also worked at Franklin Templeton NIB Investment and Mawenzi Asset Managers (formerly Brait Asset Managers) as the Head of Fixed Income. In addition, he worked as a management and strategy consultant for four years.

    Gary joined the MacroSolutions team in 2012. He is responsible for collating and validating data, as well as maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the systems employed within MacroSolutions. These systems are integral to the decision-making process in MacroSolutions, and his knowledge of these systems enables him to deliver on his primary responsibility which is to develop ideas that will add value to the investment team.

    Gary first joined Old Mutual Investment Group in 2009 on the Graduate Accelerated programme (GAP), where he rotated within Old Mutual Unit Trusts and thereafter joined Central Distribution as an MI Specialist at the end of 2010.

    Graham joined Old Mutual in 2000 and is the portfolio manager of MacroSolutions’ range of balanced funds. Before assuming this responsibility in 2014, he was portfolio manager on a number of aggressive funds, including Edge28. In addition, Graham is the MacroSolutions’ quantitative strategist, risk manager and a member of the asset allocation group. He is quantitatively driven and adds value through his ability to thoroughly test ideas prior to implementation.

    Prior to joining MacroSolutions, Graham was a quantitative analyst in the Quantitative Research Unit (QRU). There he gained experience in the various risk and data systems within Old Mutual Investment Group, and assisted the team leader with the optimisation procedures for the unit's aggressive equity offering.

    Johann heads up the economic research unit and is responsible for all areas of macroeconomic research. This includes analysis of the global economy – specifically those economies that impact on South Africa, namely the US, Europe and China. He is also tasked with detailed research of all South African economic variables. Specific focus areas include the rand, inflation, interest rates and fiscal matters. Economic research is done with one thing in mind: What is the impact on the different asset classes and thus the investment decisions?

    After graduating at the University of Stellenbosch, where he studied courtesy of a South African Reserve Bank (SARB) bursary, Johann joined the SARB's Economics Department. Following a period as an economics lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch, he joined Trust Bank (one of the constituent banks of today's ABSA Bank) as an economist. Johann joined Old Mutual as an economist in 1991.

Prior to that, John worked in similar roles in investment banking in London. John studied economics and business at the Universities of Cape Town and Oxford.

    Lungile joined MacroSolutions in February 2016 as a Junior Investment Analyst. She is a member of the property team and is responsible for conducting thorough and rigorous financial analysis of the companies listed in the property sector of the JSE in order to value them and make sound investment decisions. She uses internal and external software systems and models for the capturing and analysis of property companies and maintains the integrity of the relevant research data on a continuous basis.

    Prior to joining MacroSolutions, Lungile was a Corporate Finance Associate at Transcend Capital.

    Lungile has five years’ work experience as an auditor at BDO and an Investment Analyst at Vunani Securities.

Prior to this she practiced as a quantity surveyor.

    Up until recently Rian was Head of the Economic Research Unit, a position he held for more than 17 years. In his new role as a Strategist in the MacroSolutions boutique, he is specifically responsible for macroeconomic research that directly informs the boutique's asset allocation views. The aim of this research is to provide insight and forecasts of how macroeconomic developments may impact financial markets. 

    Rian has won the Sake24 Economist of the Year award twice: for 2014 and for 2016. The winner is chosen based on forecasts of a number of macro-economic variables being consistently closest to the eventual actual figures. 

    After graduating, Rian spent three years with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), before joining Old Mutual's Economic Research Unit.

    Tinyiko joined MacroSolutions in January 2016 as an Economist. She is also responsible for reporting to clients on fundamental and cyclical aspects of the domestic economy.

    Prior to joining MacroSolutions, Tinyiko served her chartered accounting articles within Old Mutual, spending 13 months as a credit analyst at Old Mutual Investment Group’s fixed income boutique, Futuregrowth Asset Management and later as an equity analyst within the Global Emerging Markets boutique.
