    Paul is joint-CEO of Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI). He was responsible for the formation of the business, in his prior role as the portfolio manager for Old Mutual life funds, and has played a seminal role in its development. During this time OMAI has grown into the largest private alternative investment manager in Africa with over R60 billion in assets under management across 27 active funds and over 160 portfolio companies.

    Paul has over 30 years’ experience in investments and capital markets. He currently serves on the boards of African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), African Clean Energy Development, the Southern African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association, 10X and Tourvest. Transactions in which Paul has played a leading role include Pepkor, Life Healthcare, Coronation Investment Trust, Shanduka and Mumbai Airport and the proprietary acquisition of AIIM.

    Paul’s prior experience includes qualifying as a chartered accountant and 7 years as an investment banker with Investec. He moved to Cape Town to join Old Mutual in 1995. He was senior portfolio manager of the Old Mutual Life Funds for 5 years and Head of Investment Views for Old Mutual Asset Managers for 3 years. Over these periods the life funds and fully discretionary balanced funds attained top quartile investment performance.

    He completed an Honours degree in Operations Research and holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town.

    Bradley joined OMAI at the beginning of 2020 as joint-CEO of OMAI and Head of Private Markets of the Old Mutual Investment Group. Private Markets comprise five business units with US$7.8 billion of assets under management. Bradley is responsible for the strategic development and investment management of the business, as well as managing key strategic relationships with stakeholders in the private and public sectors. He also serves on Old Mutual Investment Group’s Executive Committee.

    Bradley started his career in the financial services division of KPMG before joining Old Mutual in 1998 as an assistant portfolio manager in the investment division of Old Mutual Life Assurance Company South Africa’s Investment Division.  He conceptualized and founded Old Mutual Specialised Finance (OMSFIN) in 2000 and later left to take up the position of Executive Director at Goldman Sachs in London.

    Bradley returned to Old Mutual as Executive Personal Assistant to Roddy Sparks, the then CEO of Old Mutual South Africa and thereafter was appointed CEO of OMSFIN, the business responsible for Old Mutual Group’s market and credit risk management. He has been in this role for fifteen years, and as Head of Private Markets, continues to have oversight responsibilities for OMSFIN.

    Bradley holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town, a Bachelor of Accounting Science from the University of South Africa and is a qualified CA(SA) and CFA® charterholder.

    Karin joined OMAI in May 2010 as the Chief Operating Officer. She owns the strategy execution capability and ensures that the operating environment is underpinned by an effective risk and control framework.

    Her functional responsibilities include Finance, Investment Operations, Governance, and professional services areas such as Legal, Marketing, Human Capital and ESG. Karin’s overall duties therefore allow the investment teams to focus on the efficient management and investment of client money, supported by a frictionless and scalable platform.

    Karin has deep knowledge and experience of the listed and unlisted asset management industry. Prior to joining Old Mutual, she was employed as Head of Institutional Operations at STANLIB Asset Management where she was responsible for its entire asset management operations. Karin also spent a number of years at TASC Administration, a third-party fund administrator, as Senior Operations Manager where she built extensive knowledge of investment administration, technology and general best practice.

    Karin is a qualified Chartered Accountant in South Africa, CFA® charterholder and was awarded the CAIA Charter in 2019.

    Mary-Ann is the Chief Financial Officer at Old Mutual Alternative Investments and is responsible for the management of the finance team, overseeing all financial reporting, forecasting and business planning.

    She joined OMAI as the Finance Manager in July 2015 and was promoted to CFO in September 2019.

    Mary-Ann started her career in 1990  in the Client Accounting team in Old Mutual Investments, responsible for client and tax reporting, accurate updates of valuation of equity and bond instruments on the investment administration system and  liaising with external auditors. Between 2008 and 2011 she worked within two Sanlam businesses, namely Sanlam Life Insurance initially as an executive PA, and then as a senior accountant,  followed by a role as a Group Accountant/Financial Accountant  at  Glacier by Sanlam.

    She returned to Old Mutual Investment Group in 2011, seconded to African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) as its Finance Manager. Her responsibilities included amongst other various reporting requirements for the business, including provisional tax return reporting, directors’ and shareholders’ reporting, audit preparations, along with cash flow management.

    Mary-Anne is a qualified Chartered Accountant in South Africa.

    Clodagh joined Old Mutual Alternative Investments in January 2020 as International Client Director. Based in Old Mutual’s London office, Clodagh works closely with the client support and investment teams to develop and manage international client relationships across the business.

    Prior to joining OMAI, Clodagh was Director of Alternative Investments at Barings in London, where she was focused on the product development and fundraising of global private equity and real assets platforms. She began her private equity career as Investor Relations and Marketing Manager at Development Partners International LLP, a leading private equity fund advisor focused exclusively on Africa, also based in London, where she was responsible for investor relations, fundraising and marketing.

    Clodagh holds a dual B.A. in Classics and English from King’s College London.

    Dean is the Head of ESG at Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI), the largest private alternative investment manager in Africa with over R60 billion in assets under management. Dean is responsible for ensuring the implementation of all OMAI’s ESG practices, including Impact Investing activities throughout the investment lifecycle, and managing ESG systems and performance of OMAI’s assets.

    Since joining OMAI in 2015, Dean has played an active role in the integration of ESG practices into OMAI’s investment decision-making, managing ESG risks and unlocking opportunities across the portfolios.

    His experience includes work in the power (renewables and thermal), oil and gas, mining, transport, ports and logistics, ICT, retail, manufacturing, property, medical and financial services sectors, undertaking a full range of integrated environmental management processes.

    Dean has been a Non-Executive Director for Cookhouse Wind Farm, Umoya Wind Farm and REISA Solar PV Farm in South Africa, Chair of these Social and Ethics Committees, and a member of other ESG board subcommittees throughout Africa. He holds an MSc in Environmental Science, a BSc Honours in Integrated Environmental Management from the University of Cape Town, has completed courses in Data Science and is a Registered Principal Natural Scientist (PrSciNat).

    Zom Chizura joined Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI) in 2018 as the Head of Impact Investing. He is responsible for OMAI’s impact funds, which are active in six asset classes, including affordable housing and education and have R8.7bn of assets under management.

    Zom has more than 20 years’ experience in the investment and financial services industry. He was Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Zimbabwe where he also provided support to the Old Mutual businesses in Malawi and Kenya, before moving to Lagos as Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual West Africa.

    Zom is a Chartered Financial Analyst and is a graduate of the University of Zimbabwe and Victoria University in Australia.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Alternative Investments, Tebogo was a Development Manager at Redefine Properties. She was responsible for the development of commercial and retail developments. She also has management consulting experience, which she gained during her time as a consultant at McKinsey and Company.

    Over her 15 year career, Tebogo has worked in both public and private sectors where she has undertaken the strategic planning and implementation of large-scale capital projects.

    Ettienne joined Old Mutual Alternative Investments in May 2014. As the Head of Business Development for the Impact Funds business, Ettienne is responsible for the development, capitalisation and operationalisation of new funds. In this role, he has set up the Old Mutual Retirement Accommodation Fund (a development finance and investment fund focusing on senior living in South Africa), Urban Impact Properties Limited (the scale residential rental portfolio of the Housing Impact Fund South Africa) and is currently setting up the Old Mutual African Impact Real Estate Fund (a scale housing development fund focusing on East and Southern Africa).

    Before joining Old Mutual Investment Group, Ettienne was responsible for the Joint Ventures business of Standard Bank Real Estate Investments in the Western Cape. Prior to Standard Bank, Ettienne was a Key Accounts Manager at ABSA Commercial Property Finance / Barclays Property Finance and an analyst at an unlisted property fund. Before embarking on his career in real estate finance and investment, Ettienne worked as a management consultant.

    Ettienne has a total of 15 years of experience in the real estate finance and investment industry and 3 years as a management consultant.

    Candice joined the Impact Funds team in February 2018 and is responsible for the strategy formulation in the Impact Funds business. She drives various strategic projects across the business to implement operational improvement and business performance analysis tools.

    Prior to this, Candice was a Finance Manager at Old Mutual Investment Group, where she played a key support role to the Financial Director, which included delivery of monthly financial performance reports and project management of finance related strategic projects. She also managed the overall B-BBEE scorecard process, which 

    includes tracking progress against targets as well as associated reporting.

    Candice is also a trustee of the Curo Broad Based Development Trust and is currently studying towards her MBA at the UCT Business Graduate School.

    Prior to joining the business, Njabulo was an Investment Officer at the KZN Growth Fund Trust. He also spent four years as a Real Estate Deal Maker / Transactor at RMB before co-founding Uplift Property Investments Ltd, a real estate investment and development fund focused on the property and education sector.

    Njabulo holds a BCom Honours degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal.

    Byron’s background enables him to bring his investment analysis, credit risk, financial management and asset management skills to the fore.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, Byron was a Transaction Manager and Product Controller at Investec Bank and a Securitisation Manager at Standard Bank. He completed his articles at PwC after which he spent a year working in the US.

    Byron has 14 years of work experience with exposure to investment analysis, asset management and financial management.

    Nokuthula Sedumedi was appointed as Senior Property Development Manager, Impact Funds on 1 July 2018 after joining Old Mutual Alternative Investments on 1 November 2017 as a Property Development Manager.

    Nokuthula has a BSc Honours degree in Quantity Surveying and a Master of Building in Construction Project Management from the University of Witwatersrand. Nokuthula is also currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration degree with the University of Witwatersrand. She is also professionally registered with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as a Professional Construction Project Manager and the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project Management Professional.

    Her experience of more than 12 years includes working as Project Operations Manager for Eskom Rotek Industries (Construction Division), Programme Manager at the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and Property Development Manager at the Public Investment Corporation.

    Nokuthula is based at the Old Mutual offices in Sandton and she is a member of the Development Impact Funds Exco team within Old Mutual Alternative Investments.  CLOSE

    De Wet joined Old Mutual Alternative Investments in February 2013 as a Deal Financial Manager.

    In 2015 he joined the greenfields team and is currently managing a portfolio of residential development assets, which includes strategic and operational decisions relating to these projects and their funding structures. 

    He brings with him operational experience at deal and project level together with a wide range of experience in the credit environment. De Wet also has significant experience in low-income housing and working in a financial management environment.

    Before joining Old Mutual Alternative Investments, he was employed by Mettle for six years, managing various departments and projects.The projects included the liquidation of a debtor book securitisation structure and recovery of a home loan debtor book which was in default.Prior to that De Wet did his accounting articles at LDP Inc.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, he was employed as a Property Finance Manager at Standard Bank in the   Real Estate Finance Division, as well as a Credit Manager in the Corporate Banking Division.

    Kelly Joshua was appointed Head of the Education Team within the Impact Investing capability of Old Mutual Alternative Investments in 2020 after serving as an Asset Manager in the team for just over 6 years. She is responsible for the overall strategy, Fund raising and overseeing the deal origination, assets management and implementation within the education portfolio.

    Kelly joined OMAI in August 2013 as an Investment Professional and then progressed to a Senior Investment Professional within the Education Investing team in October 2017. Since joining the team, Kelly’s work has included leading the execution of some of our most successful education investments within the country’s first and largest education impact fund, the Schools and Education Investment Impact Fund of South Africa (SEIIFSA). Kelly has also been instrumental in the successful launch of SEIIFSA’s successor fund, EduFund.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, she was an Equity Analyst at Catalyst Fund Managers for six years, focusing on the South African listed property sector.

    Kelly has over thirteen years of work experience in Asset Management, across both listed and unlisted assets.

    Kelly has a Business Science Finance honours degree from UCT and holds a Master’s in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. She currently serves on eleven boards within the education portfolio.

    Mati graduated from Wits University, where she wrote her honours thesis on ‘The Alignment of Corporate Real Estate Strategy to Business Strategy’.

    Megan joined OMAI in August 2014 as an investment analyst within the Housing Impact team. In March 2020, she joined the Education Investing team.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Megan was a Fixed Income and Performance Analyst at Trilinear Investment Managers for five years. She then spent two years as a Tender Manager within Old Mutual Investment Group before joining the OMAI team. 

    Megan has a Masters in Mathematics of Finance and currently serves on four boards within the education portfolio.

    Zinhle Mncube is an Investment Professional within the Impact Investing Team at Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI). He manages the HIFSA assets and is responsible for the implementation of real estate and property projects.

    Before joining OMAI in September 2020, he was part of a research and development firm that focused on local economic development in rural, peri urban and township areas with his role specifically focused on bringing industrial and social infrastructure in these communities through project development, capital raising, project management and overseeing operations. He has also worked in investment banking in the power and infrastructure sector as an advisory analyst and credit officer for almost 4 years.

    He has a BCom Finance from the University of Johannesburg and completed his Post-graduate Diploma in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

    Nithin is an Investment professional within the Impact Investing Education Team. His responsibilities include assisting with research, identifying new school investment opportunities, financial modelling, managing existing school investments as well as preparing investment proposals for potential new investments in schools and educational assets.

    Nithin joined the Impact Funds team at Old Mutual Alternative Investments in 2017.

    Nithin graduated from the Old Mutual Chartered Accountant Training Programme (OMCAT) at the end of 2016. As a result, he got the opportunity to work within various business units – including Central Finance, Internal Auditing, Accounting and Investments – within both Old Mutual Life Assurance Company of South Africa and Old Mutual Investment Group during his three-year training period.

    Nithin is a Chartered Accountant registered with SAICA.

    Shaila joined the Development Impact Fund team in August 2012. She is responsible for research and analysis, assisting in the origination of projects, due diligence of projects, financial structuring and modelling, asset valuation, development of term sheets, writing investment proposals, social impact analysis.

    Thurston joined Old Mutual Investment Group in March 2013 as an Investment Professional within the Impact Funds team. With his extensive investment experience across Africa, he joined principally to expand the team’s investments across the rest of the continent. In addition, he has also been involved in the management of the business’s rental property investments in South Africa.

    His main responsibilities encompass origination, analysis and due diligence of projects/investments of the business’ funds as well as managing the implementation, performance and exits from the funds. 

    Thurston’s extensive experience investing in various asset classes across Sub-Saharan Africa means that he brings with him an understanding of working across the continent that is second to none.

    Before joining Old Mutual Investment Group, he completed his MBA at Oxford University’s Said Business School and did corporate finance consulting. Prior to that, he spent three and a half years as Vice President and Senior Investment Analyst at Renaissance Asset Managers’ Africa Multi-Strategy Fund based in London. He also worked as a Senior Executive in Ernst & Young’s London Private Equity Advisory Division. Before moving to London, Thurston worked at Investec Asset Management analysing South African, Botswana and Namibian companies. He completed his articles at PwC.

    Prior to joining Old Mutual Investment Group, he spent seven years working in the property industry in the United Kingdom, working for GE Real Estate, Prudential Property Investment Managers, Mirvac UK and Deloitte.

    Willem is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Directors (IoD). He currently serves on seven boards within the education portfolio.

    Jacci is the co-Head of Old Mutual Private Equity (OMPE) and oversees the investment process, strategic direction and operational running of the business.

    In addition to assuming responsibility for the overall private equity programme, as a member of the OMPE Investment Committee he is actively involved in all investment decision-making processes and retains portfolio responsibility for key investments.

    Jacci is a Chartered Accountant and served articles with PriceWaterhouseCoopers before joining Anglo American’s Corporate Finance division in 1999. He then worked with Old Mutual’s Corporate Finance division for five years before moving to OMPE as a Portfolio Manager in February 2005.

    Jacci serves on the boards of Actom, Consol Glass, Primedia, and the Advisory boards of Actis III and Ethos V and VI as well as Brait IV.

    Chumani is the co-Head of Old Mutual Private Equity (OMPE), overseeing the investment process, strategic direction and operational running of the business.

    Since joining Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI) in 2007, he has been involved in the full suite of private equity functions, from deal origination to implementation, investment management and exit. OMPE is now one of the largest and most established private equity managers in South Africa, with R8 billion invested across a range of sectors and in excess of R15 billion returned to investors.

    Chumani joined Old Mutual Private Equity as an Analyst, coming out of the Old Mutual TOPP Programme. He has 14 years of experience in private equity investments. He is also the founding Chairman of Fun Learning for Youth, a non-profit organisation providing academic support to high school learners from disadvantaged communities to enable them to gain entry into university.

    Chumani has degrees in business science and accounting and is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He serves on the boards of MoreCorp, Medhold, Footgear and Phembani.

    Farhad Khan is an Investment Partner at Old Mutual Private Equity (OMPE) and is responsible for deal origination, implementation, investment management and exits.

    Farhad joined Old Mutual Private Equity in February 2005 as an Analyst. Over his tenure at the firm he has been involved in numerous private equity and mezzanine debt investments, including Tourvest, Pepkor, Life Healthcare, Foodcorp, Metcash, Primedia, RTT, Consol Glass, In2food, Morecorp, Medhold and Footgear. He was also involved in numerous mezzanine debt investments, and previously sat on the board of Mezzanine Partners.

    After completing his studies, he joined the Johannesburg office of global consulting group, Stern Stewart and Co. where he spent three years.

    Farhad has degrees in accounting and finance and has 16 years of private equity experience. He currently serves on the boards of the following companies: Consol Glass, Tourvest, In2Food and Footgear.

Post-articles, Burchert joined Old Mutual Equities as a Listed Equity Analyst, where he covered stocks in the Financial, IT and Construction industries.

    Burchert has degrees in accounting and is a Chartered Accountant. He has 5 years of investment experience with 3 of those years spent in private equity investments.

    Siphosethu holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Financial Accounting and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2015.

    Nabeel is the head of International Private Equity, a business unit within Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI). Nabeel heads the International Private Equity Funds programme with over $1 billion of funds under management. This programme comprises a number of global as well as Africa focussed private equity funds.

    Nabeel joined OMAI in February 2015 and is a member of OMAI’s EXCO. He has over 15 years of financial services and operational experience.

    Prior to joining OMAI, Nabeel spent time as an entrepreneur before joining one of the big four auditing firms where he completed his articles and audited some of the largest companies in South Africa. He then joined one of South Africa’s premier banks, participating in debt transactions across leveraged finance, project finance and balance sheet lending. Thereafter he was engaged by the Mergers and Acquisitions team of Deloitte’s Corporate Finance Advisory business, where he advised on transactions across various industries.

    He is a CFA® charterholder, Chartered Accountant and has passed the JSE Sponsor Development Programme exams.

    Leon joined the Alternative Investments boutique in April 2007, as a member of the International Private Equity team, where he has been instrumental in implementing the organisation of the OMIGSA International Private Equity Funds of Funds.

    He forms part of the advisory team that makes investment recommendations to the fund, and is involved in the monitoring of the fund’s investments. Leon also advises the fund in respect of its financial operations and reporting.

    Leon’s work experience started with completing his articles at Deloitte & Touche in Johannesburg. Thereafter, he worked in the Corporate Finance division of UAL Merchant Bank for nine years, advancing to General Manager. During this time, he advised listed companies regarding mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and fundraising.

    He was involved in direct private equity investing from 1996 to 2006 with entities such as New Africa Advisors, Gensec Bank and Absa Capital. There he gained valuable experience in making private equity investments, post-investment management of private equity investments, structuring private equity funds, restructuring of investments and exiting from investments. During this time he served on the boards of directors of a number of companies.

    Jhulan joined OMAI in September 2020 and has over 7 years Investment Banking experience advising African and multinational corporations.

    Prior to joining OMAI, Jhulan held investment banking roles at J.P. Morgan and Standard Bank where he worked on mergers and acquisitions, disposals and capital markets transactions.

    Jhulan has an MBA from IE Business School (Madrid, Spain) and a Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town.
