    On 01 February 2012, Ralph took up the position of CEO of Old Mutual Emerging Markets. The focus of the role was to drive he growth of Old Mutual’s life and savings businesses in South Africa, Africa, Latin America and Asia through leveraging group capabilities and skills. Prior to this, he was CEO of Old Mutual Life and Savings.

    Ralph is a director of the main Emerging Markets board – Old Mutual Life Assurance Company of South Africa (OMLACSA) and also serves on various subsidiary boards. Outside of Old Mutual he is a board member of the University of Cape Town (Graduate School of Business) Advisory. He is also deeply involved in developing math and science competence for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

    Ralph joined Old Mutual in 2001 in Old Mutual’s Individual Life business. In 2004 he was promoted to Managing Director of Old Mutual Unit Trusts. In 2006, he became the group’s Strategy Director and led the development of several new businesses within OMSA as Director of New Ventures. A key new business that Ralph led was setting up the South African based lending business Old Mutual Finance – focused on lending solutions to mass market customers. In 2008, Ralph was then appointed as the Managing Director - Retail to drive the growth of Old Mutual in the affluent segment which includes the distribution of its solutions through the tied adviser force, broker networks, independent and bank channels.

Prior to joining Old Mutual South Africa, Dave was a member of the Nedbank Group Executive Committee in his capacity as the Group Managing Executive at Nedbank Wealth. Here he was responsible for Asset Management, Insurance and Wealth Management both locally and internationally. From 2002 to 2004, he was the Managing Director of Nedcor Investments. Previously, Dave was a member of the Nedbank Investment Bank Group Executive and Divisional Director of International, Asset Management and Corporate Marketing from 1998 to 2002.     Hywel joined Old Mutual Investment Group in August 2013 and is responsible for the delivery of performance across the listed asset management business. He is key in providing thought leadership to the business as well as nurturing and developing new investment products.

    Hywel has worked in institutional and private client asset management in Europe and the Middle East for over 25 years. He began his investment career at Mercury Asset Management during which the business grew from US$10bn to US$100bn AUM. He then managed the UK and European Equity business for Goldman Sachs, growing external client AUM from US$1bn to over US$12bn, and helping to establish Goldman Sachs Asset Management as a highly regarded asset management operation in Europe.

    He then moved to Morgan Stanley where he managed the asset management equity business in Europe, before moving to become CEO of the Public Equity business of Dubai International Capital, with clients throughout the Middle East. Latterly, Hywel was a founding partner of Integral Asset Management, a boutique wealth management firm.

    Paul has been Head of Alternative Investments since 2004. This boutique is responsible for the group’s investments in infrastructure, private equity, impact investment and mezzanine debt. He chairs the Alternative Assets Investment Committee and has served on the boards of African Infrastructure Investment Managers, Assore, African Clean Energy Development, CIT, J&J, Life Healthcare, Metcash, Mezzanine Partners, Old Mutual Investment Group, Pepkor, Tourvest and Pembani. He also chaired Green Hands, Old Mutual Investment Group’s Social Development Forum, for 10 years.

    Paul’s entire career has been involved in investment and capital markets. His previous work experience includes serving articles with Deloittes in Johannesburg where he qualified as a chartered accountant. He then spent seven years as an investment banker at Investec.

    Paul joined Old Mutual in 1995. He spent five years as the Portfolio Manager of the Old Mutual Life Funds (at the time a US$50 billion portfolio and the largest balanced mandate in the country) and three years as Head of Investment Views, formulating the investment house view and model portfolio for Old Mutual Investment Group. Over these periods, the Life Funds and fully discretionary balanced funds, respectively, delivered top quartile performance.

    John is the Joint Boutique Head of Customised Solutions, a boutique with assets under management in excess of R100 billion spread the full investment spectrum (both local and global) including active equity funds, multi-asset class funds and hedge funds. John chairs the portfolio management oversight committee. This committee has oversight of all portfolio management decisions across the boutique John is also involved in the day-to-day portfolio management activities of three derivative-based hedge funds; and a low-risk absolute return fund – Capital Builder fund (unit trust, life-wrapped guaranteed and segregated versions).

    John joined Old Mutual Investment Group in November 2004 as a portfolio manager, and was responsible for developing and managing various portfolios including absolute return funds, structured products and hedge funds, all of which traded a full range of derivative instruments. He was also instrumental in developing a number of innovative equity funds which have built an enviable track record over the last 5 years. In 2013 John became CIO of the Absolute Return boutique. John has been a member of both the South African Hedge Fund Standing Committee (ASISA) and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Options Advisory Committee. During his articles at KPMG Financial Services from 1996 to 1998, John was a member of the Treasury Advisory Group, focusing exclusively on treasury operations, derivative trading and market risk management. After completing his articles, John became a senior consultant at KPMG Banking and Finance Consulting in 1999, focusing on bank treasury risk management.

    In late 1999, John joined UBS Investment Bank in the derivative sales and structuring division. Over the next four years, he built the South African equity derivative business and was involved in equity derivatives research, structuring, sales and trading. He was promoted to Director, Head of Derivatives and a member of the UBS management committee in January 2001. In 2002, John became a member of the JSE Financial Derivatives Advisory Committee. John resigned from UBS in mid-2003 to study for an MBA at INSEAD (France).

    Grant is the Joint Boutique Head of Customised Solutions. This boutique has assets under management in excess of R100 billion. These assets comprise local and global investments across the investment spectrum. Grant is involved in driving the boutique investment process; developing and implementing the boutique strategy and managing various portfolios across the hedge fund; general equity; specialist equity and multi asset class range.

    Grant has 22 years of financial markets experience encompassing managing currency, derivative, hedge fund and multi asset class portfolios. Grant began his career in the currency markets, trading currency derivatives on a proprietary basis for one of the large South African banks. Grant is a qualified stock broker and was a founder member of the team that set up one of the first hedge funds in South Africa in 1997. He joined Futuregrowth Asset Management in 2004, heading up their Alternative Investments business. Futuregrowth was acquired by Old Mutual Investment Group in 2008.
